On 10 June we welcome Clouds Harp Quartet to Theatr Mwldan.  Their music has been celebrated for combining modern and experimental elements with melodic and moving qualities; their performances have been described as dramatic and captivating.

Clouds composer, founder and one quarter of the group, Esther Swift (also Twelfth Day and Swift & Lindop) has been likened to Kate Bush, Eddie Reader and Joanna Newsom.  Drawing on her background in Scottish folk music and improvisation, her music also brings in jazz, blues, dance and minimalist influences. The results are enthralling, enchanting and beautiful.

Despite their classical training (the four met while studying at the Royal Northern College of Music), they play mostly by ear, and while the compositions are carefully and tightly arranged, there is a freedom and intimacy to the performances, and a sense that they take real pleasure in playing together.

Mae Pedwarawd Telyn Clouds yn perfformio heb gerddoriaeth, ar ôl dysgu’r cwbl gyda’i gilydd yn ôl y glust, ac maent yn gwthio ffiniau a galluoedd yr hyn y byddech yn ei ddisgwyl ar y delyn bedal.
